A nailbiting story of survival (Guardian)Vaughn gives readers science fiction with a generous helping of humanity - the best kind of speculative writing (Christina Dalcher (author of VOX))SK Vaughn has taken a well-loved genre and given it a much needed shot in the arm. Fantastic idea, but delivered with such heart, incredible tension and beautifully drawn characters. The best survival thriller since The Martian (John Marrs)Gripping stuff (SFX)Fans of The Martian will be enthralled (Library Journal)The action ramps up, and up, and up again - every time I thought the stakes were as high as they could get, Vaughn seemed to find a way to raise them just a notch further (The Book Bag)Vaughn, no slouch when it comes to thrill-a-minute rides, peppers his narrative with entertaining tips-of-the-hat to multiple thriller-focused elements (Seattle Review of Books)

I stumbled upon Across the Void while looking for a book for my husband. I was intrigued by the storyline: a female astronaut waking up alone on a vessel in deep space, not sure what has happened to her crew or why she was in an induced coma. We later find out that her ship is in distress and that she may not survive unless she can get her ship in working order again and time is running out.Across the Void is an exciting thriller that should appeal to fans of Andy Weir's The Martian. Even though our heroine, May, is not always the most likable character, she evokes empathy and her determination to survive, even in moments when she thinks her situation is hopeless, kept me rooting for her.My only quibbles with Across the Void are that the ending felt a bit rushed and there were a few plot twists that seemed a bit too expected. However, I really enjoyed following the rollercoaster ride how May ended up in her situation and her fight to survive.A recommended read!

...yawn because I'm dead tired. I literally couldn't put the book down, and it's now 3 in the morning. Because of that it will be a short review. Very entertaining book, started off as a mystery which was slowly unravelled (partly with flashbacks that are often boring but worked well here). Only criticism is that it got slightly far fetched in the later parts (James bond billionaire with magic spaceship and some hard to believe twists). 1 star off because of that, but still highly recommended.

Thoughtful character development and backstories, cool science that is reminiscent of The Martian, and a thrilling ride. Couldn’t put it down. Wish there was more!

Oh this was bad.The way it was marketed I expected Interstellar, with a dash of 2010, and enough romance to bring me to tears. It was none of those things.Maryann Knox is the most dislikable character of the year. Imagine Lorie Grimes filled with vitriol. Now make it worse, make her think she’s funny. The humor fell flat, it was continuous, low, and grating. And I like British humor. There was no redeeming hard science fiction. There was no redeeming romance. And the overall story? Days of Our Lives has born more realistic heartfelt plot lines. This was so bad.I received a copy of this from Goldsboro Books as their June Book of the Month. I have since canceled.*Audible Note: Bournemouth is now my least favorite British accent. The Texas accent portrayed was so bad I screamed curses at my iPhone. Also Eve, Maryanne’s mother, had a thick foreign accent for no reason. Other than saying she was black I don’t recall anything about her not being from England. This was painful on all fronts.

Spoilers ahead. There's no way in 2066 that a highly trained astronaut would make the decision to keep a baby in that dire situation. I know it's the future but how many months was it when it was born??? Like 4?
